Tips for Coping with Crypto Burnout in a Bear Market

Learn how to cope with burnout related to financial stress, and a bear market.

There's a lot of chatter online about crypto. The world of crypto is more active today than it ever has been. Unlike the traditional stock market, you’re dealing with a market that doesn’t sleep. Crypto can be all-consuming in a lot of ways, and it’s easy to be overwhelmed.

The reality is that if you’re not looking after your mental health, you likely will run into some difficulty seeing as the grips of stress and burnout can be tight. For one thing, your chances of sustainability can decrease drastically, or even go off the table all together.  When you’re buried in something so deep, it’s times like these that can jeopardize your decision making, your mental and physical health, and of course, your profitability.

Why am I feeling burnout?

Noticing the feelings, thoughts and physical sensations that go along with your feeling burnout can help you pinpoint what's causing you to feel stressed out or overwhelmed.

Am I spending my free time on things that are important to me? Ask yourself if what you're doing with your time aligns with what you value most in life and how you want to spend your free time.

Am I spending time on mindless activities like scrolling through social media feeds or watching Youtube?

Am I spending too much time thinking about things I can’t control?

Remove yourself from the constant conversations of cryptocurrencies, and instead focus on doing other stuff that is fun and rewarding and enjoyable for your mind and your body.

How should I tackle burnout?

Here are three things you can do to help overcome the mental clutter and regain your clarity of mind:

  1. Start journaling if you've been feeling overwhelmed by all the information online. Journaling is a great way to reflect, decompress and tune into your inner voice. To journal: just grab a notebook and pen or a laptop and turn on some relaxing music. Then write down what you're thinking without editing or censoring yourself. Mindfulness meditation can help clear our minds and give us a sense of perspective. Aim to journal for 15 to 20 minutes a day and meditate for 5 to 10 minutes a day.
  2. Practice mindfulness & meditation. Meditation is a practice that helps people use their mind intentionally to choose how to respond to thoughts, feelings and experiences. We meditate a lot here at Finblox because we find it helps our team make better financial decisions and cultivate a healthy mindset to deal with the ups and downs of crypto markets. It’s not magic, but mindfulness meditation can help clear your mind and calm you down so you can cope better with stress, anxiety and depression. It's critical to set aside time to meditate so you can focus your energy on what's important.
  3. Make time to connect with friends offline. Being active in online communities like Discord, Reddit, Telegram, and Facebook makes it seem like we do enough to socialize. In fact, studies suggest that people who only interact with friends online tend to have lower happiness scores than those with lots of face-to-face interaction. And no wonder! Spending time online gives your brain a chance to zone out, which can leave you feeling less satisfied after you put down your phone or turn off your computer. When you're relaxed and interacting with people in person, your brain releases oxytocin and dopamine, chemicals that make you feel relaxed and happy. So make time to connect with friends offline as much as possible!

How to avoid burnout as a crypto investor?

If you're constantly thinking about the market, reading crypto news or watching trading charts all the time, it's natural that you'd feel burned out. Do something radically different, like doing an activity that feels unfamiliar, exciting or fun to break your routine.

If you catch yourself feeling burned out, try going somewhere you’ve been wanting to go to or trying a new hobby. This can help you shift your focus and open up your mind to new possibilities and perspectives. This can also help you look at things in a more positive light, which can help reduce stress and have more optimistic and hopeful feelings.

WAGMI: We are all gonna make it

The acronym WAGMI might seem hyperbolic, but at a deeper level, WAGMI is a mantra that builds confidence, infuses optimism, and reinstills the collective togetherness of the crypto community. No, we are not all going to be billionaires, but with purpose, patience and self-care, we can do a lot better than survive. Let’s thrive!

Financial Wellness + Mental Wellness = Survival

Being stressed about your assets has a direct impact on health and can negatively affect everything from sleep quality to respiratory symptoms. That’s why we’re big advocates of self-care and mental wellness at Finblox, and we think it’s important to prioritize our mental health over profits.

It’s inevitable to feel worried and anxious as we see our portfolio take a nosedive during this bear market, and we’re already seeing crypto investors commit suicide as they lose their life savings. However, if we take some steps to enhance our overall well-being, we will develop a durable competitive advantage in getting through these hard and trying times. So always remember to put on your own oxygen mask first! You are unable to thrive in this market without taking care of yourself and being compassionate about your own struggles.
